29 Weeks - Maternity Shoot, Showers and More!

We are closing in on the end of 29 weeks.

We had a very busy, but GREAT week!

On Thursday, we went to Fair Park to see the Broadway musical of Mary Poppins (thanks for the tickets Mom!). Our review? The set was great - Costumes great - Acting/Singing - Great - Storyline -......-hmmm.... Not quite the Mary Poppins that I remember. Lots of weird additions, new songs, just much different. Wasn't my favorite play.

On Friday, we had our nurse dietician come to our house to educate us on the gestational diabetes. To make a long story short, I am on a VERY RESTRICTED 1800 calorie diet each day and they are very specific as to what I can eat, when

I can eat and when I can eat what! In addition to this, I have to check my Ketone levels (liver function) each morning a

s well as checking my blood 4 times a day. Wait - there's more! Then I have to keep a food diary to present to my doctor - and includes EVERYTHING I eat all day long - as well as a Fetal Movement Diary. Wow! This is a full time job in itself!

On Saturday, our sister in-laws, Layna and Lena, along with our great friend Bill, threw us a great baby shower! Thank you so much to the three of you! It was a truly amazing shower!!!! We had a great time with friends and family! Thank you to all of our friends and family that came and thank you so much for all the spoils for the baby....LOL!

Then, Sunday was a very busy, but great day! We started the day with our first ever maternity shoot with Jamie Coupaud at the Dallas Arboretum. Here are some of the pics that we took (More to come):

We were surprised at the amount of people that were there! Lots of photographers too! We saw engagement pics, bridal portraits, quincenera pictures, Family Fall pictures, Halloween pictures and more! Crazy! We started at 10 a.m. when it was somewhat cool outside, but when we finished at 11:45 a.m., it was definitely in the low 90's!

Afterwards, we took about an hour break at home before we headed to our great friends - David and Brynn's house for a bible study. Not only were we thrilled to divulge in the teaching, but upon our departure, David & Brynn agreed to be our little baby boy's godparents! YEAH!!!

Then we headed to our new church plant - Restoration Anglican Church - for evening service.

It was quite a week and am looking forward to a week full of nothing to do after work each day!

At 29 weeks - this is where we are:

I am officially 39" around! Here is the proof:

What is going on with our sweet baby boy:
*He weighs about 2 1/2 pounds
* Tad over 15" long
* He will triple in size over the next 9-10 weeks! Eek!
* His head is growing to allow for a growing brain
* Fat fat fat - that is what his body is consuming at this point - most developmental changes are complete!

We hope that everyone is having a great week!

T-10 weeks!

Week 28.....THE FINAL TRIMESTER + Bedroom Furniture, Medical and More

Hey Everyone!

We are ending our 28th week of pregnancy! And what a crazy week its been.

We were thrown an AMAZING baby shower on Friday by my awesome coworkers for all of our industry friends. It was so great to see everybody!!! A huge THANK YOU to everyone for everything!!!

Prior to the shower, I had to go to the doctor to get another glucose test - I had come back with elevated levels of glucose in my system in the previous week's one-hour test. I arrived at 8:30 a.m. - Didn't get se
until 9:00 a.m. - and then found out that it was a 3-hour glucose test! OUCH!

So...I had my blood drawn (after having fasted for over 12 hours). Then they made me drink this AWFUL lemon-lime thick syrupy gross super sweet glucose drink - that was twice as concentrated as the one a week before. I sat in the lobby for a while and then headed out to my car - read my new Dan Brown book for a while and then took a 15 minute nap. I went back in and had my blood drawn again.....this time out of the top of my left hand. That was it - totally turned my stomach and I had to RUN to the ladies room!

Afterwards, I found ou
t that there was a Kohl's right behind the doc's office, so I spent the next hour in there - realizing the massive sale that they were having - and needing to buy an outfit for the shower, since now I wouldn't have time to go home and change. I went back to the doctor's office - had my blood drawn again - headed back to Kohl's - made my purchase - then headed BACK to the doctor's office for the last draw. Oh wow. I was done with needles after that visit.

As of today, though, I found out that I have been diagnosed with full blown gestational diabetes :( And I am very sad. Jonathan and I are going to have to go to an education course to find out what I can and cannot eat - as well as learning how to test my blood sugar.

Thank goodness this goes away after the baby is born - 11 weeks and counting.

I hosted a pampered chef party this weekend and had 3 people come. Thank you so much to those that did come! I guess its just the season for sickness and weddings! If anyone does like Pampered Chef - or knows someone that might like some for Christmas, make sure to click here :)

My poor Jonathan has been sick for 2 weeks now and finally went to the doctor. Apparently he's had a pretty bad case of allergies that triggered a cold and he seems to finally be getting over that! Yeah!

Let's see....Oh yeah! We've been saving for months now and got our new bedroom furniture in on Friday!! YEAH!! It is so beautiful! See below for pics:

Bed with 2 nightstands

Dresser with Mirror

Tall Dresser

As far as our little man - he is doing great. I am starting to feel the weight and becoming more uncomfortable as each day passes.

At 28 weeks - I am at 38" and a hair - Meaning that I packed on an additional 1" in diameter since last Sunday - Wow! No wonder I'm uncomfortable!!!

Here is a 28 week belly shot:

Here is what is happening to him now:

* His eyes are open and he can detect light, as well as begin blinking
* AND - the baby's eyes now have color! (So are they momma's brown eyes or daddy's hazel eyes???)
* He is finally on a regular sleep-wake schedule
* His lungs are now capable of breathing air!!!!
* He weighs about 2 lbs. 4 oz. now and is approximately 14.8 inches long from head to toe

He's about the size of an Squash..... (eww..)

or a Chinese Cabbage (eww..)

Seriously - Can't they come up with more yummy things?

Hope everyone has a great week!

27 Weeks Pregnant - Last Week of 2nd Trimester

We are now 27 weeks pregnant! YEAH!

There are 85 days until your due date on December 09, 2009.
You are
194 days pregnant.
You are
6.4 months pregnant.
You are in your
7th month of pregnancy.

We had our monthly OB visit on Friday and got the O.K. from Dr. Herr on our birth plan!

Jonathan set up the baby's dresser and the crib this weekend!!!

Here is the dresser / changing table:

Here is Jonathan assembling the crib:

Here is the completed crib:

Now we just need the mattress for the crib and the changing table to get full tilt boogy on setting up the room.

Our first baby shower happens this Friday! YEAH! I am so very excited :)

I am also very excited, because our friend Greg is going to draw some pictures for the baby's room - sketches on canvas :) It will be a while before we get those, but I am anxious to receive them!

Other than that, Jonathan and I have both been fighting colds. Yuk! Stinks when there isn't much medicine that you can take.

Well, this is what is happening in the 27th week with our little man:

* Hiccups are more frequent as the lungs prepare for breathing on their own.
* Eyes have opened now and he can react to light
* He has begun to grow eyelashes
* Most importantly, since the major developments are complete, he will be gaining about a 1/2 a pound a week from now until he is born! Wow....

* He is about 2 lbs. now and about 14 1/2 inches long.

About the size of a cauliflower

Or an eggplant:

At 27 weeks, my belly is measuring 37.4" around, that's 7.4" since pre-pregnancy .... and about 2.5" in the last few weeks.

Here's a 27 week belly pic:

Have a great week everyone!

26th Week of Pregnancy! NURSERY PICTURES!!!

Here we are in our 26th week! YEAH!

It has been a rollercoaster of a week, though.

We lost a good friend of ours, Sam McNeill, and had his memorial service on Saturday. Also, this past week, we lost my mom's dog Max - he crossed over the rainbow bridge on Thursday after suffering from heart failure. This is the week that we celebrate the life of our Boxer, Rocky, who passed away two years ago and also this is the one year anniversary of Sandy's vicious dog attack. Thank goodness that she is doing wonderful! Finally, this is also the 4th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina......but that brought me back to Dallas and into the arms of my wonderful husband!

This time of the year seems to always be a difficult time, but I must say that without loss and grief, we would not be where we are today, nor the people that we have become. For this we give great thanks!

On to happier news - JONATHAN FINISHED THE BABY'S ROOM!!!! When I say finish the baby's room...this is what he did this weekend: Finished laying the hardwood floors, laid the Quarter Round around the perimeter of the room, Removed the old blinds, Hung the plantation shutters, hung the valance, removed the old fan, put up the new fan, replaced the lightswitch, hung the lightswitch cover, replaced all of the outlet covers!!!!! That's my man!
The ceiling fan was absolutely the most difficult thing to do in the room! Good teamwork got that bad boy up.

Here are some pictures of his hard work!!!! The before to after is just incredible! Now its just time to fill it up with all of his things! Well.....after the showers that is.

#3b) THE TORMENT OF HANGING THE FAN (Jonathan is up in the attic just above that little bitty hole)

In addition to the upgrades to the room, Labor Day was fun! Papa Juan was to buy our crib, so we turned in an old carseat for a 20% coupon on selected items at Babies R Us (Our baby furniture was included!). When we got there, the price was more expensive than online, so we found out that there was a 10% discount on the entire line because it was being discontinued! NOOOOOOOO!!!! If you remember, this happened with our bedding and we had to buy all of our own bedding in order to insure that we got what we wanted. So, today, we had to buy the crib and the dresser (a little more than we expected), but got the 10% off, plus the 20% for our old carseat trade - in.......

We didn't expect to have to buy so much before the showers, but I am sure glad that we have it all now!

In addition, we took the time to review the registries, updated and changed where needed and uploaded it all to our AMAZINGREGISTRY.COM registry compilation. Man I love that site! Mushing together all of your registries into one easy spot to look and buy from :)

What's going on with our little man this week:

* Air sacks are developing, which means he just might be possible for him to take a breath at the end of this week.

* The retina completes the development of its normal layers this week

* Brainwaves for the auditory and visual systems are detectable, which means he is registering things like sound and light.

* He is about 1 2/3 pounds and is 14 inches long head-to-heel, or about the length of a burp cloth

Or an English Hothouse Cucumber

* And, then, most importantly for our little boy, his testes are beginning to descend

Jonathan, like I say over and over, is the most amazing man I have ever met. As a friend and as a partner, he just overwhelms me with his love each day. How did I ever become so lucky? I can't wait to see him as a father.

And speaking of that....he has requested that he post some blogs so that everyone can get a sense of what he is experiencing throughout this pregnancy. So, keep your eyes peeled for posts a la Jonathan :)

Everyone have a great week! Hope Labor Day weekend was terrific.
