10 Eco-friendly Mother's Day Gift Ideas

If you need a little Mother's Day inspiration hopefully this will help! If you have any ideas you would like to share please leave a comment!

Did you know that the earliest incarnations of Mother's Day was to bring together Mothers  whose sons had fought or died on opposite sides of the American Civil War. It became a national holiday on May 9, 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation declaring the first national Mother's Day. This year Mother's Day falls on Sunday May 8.

I have never met a Mom who wouldn't love the chance to be pampered! Aveda salons use great eco-friednly products and Mom can choose to get a massage, facial, or many other services. You can find a location near your Mom here.

3. Naturally Knotty Bamboo Wrap
I have one of these wraps and totally love it. It is so soft and everyone who touches comments on how soft it feels. It comes in a cool bamboo tube so there is no need to wrap it! These are available at Costco right now for $29.99. You can also get them on theNaturally Knotty site.

4. Weleda Wild Rose Facial Care Kit

There are a lot of great organic skincare lines out there that would make great gifts. I happen to really like Weleda products and this starter size kit is so affordable, $14.99. You can buy Weleda products at Target so another alternative would be to buy a few full size products that would work well for you mom and put then together into a basket or tin pail. If your Mom loves products you can not go wrong with Weleda!

5. Tom's Wedges
If your Mom loves shoes she will love Tom's. Like Moms, Tom's takes care of children. For every pair of shoes sold they give a pair of shoes to a needy child. They call this campaign 'One for One.' You could write a moving note to your Mom saying why you chose these shoes for her. These wedges are $69. You can usually find these locally at Nordstorm and Neimam Marcus.

7. Hydroponic Garden Kit

Okay, this would be a dream gift. Pretty pricey but if you have a Mom who would love to garden but doesn't have a lot of space this would be an amazing gift. TheHydroponic Garden grows vertically and can accommodate a huge variety of fruits, veggies, herbs, and flowers! The system costs about $500 shipped but your Mom will be able to save on produce and enjoy her own garden! ...or if you like this idea but need it on a smaller scale how about this version for a window for only $38!

8. Nook Color tablet reader

If your Mom is a big reader these Nook tablets are just amazing. She can carry all of her reading with her. This is an environmentally friendly way to read all your magazines, newspapers, and books. The new color Nook costs $249. The original Nook is $149.

9. My Quotable Kid: A Parents' Journal of Unforgettable Quotes
My Quotable Kid: A Parents' Journal of Unforgettable Quotes would be a great gift for a Mom with little ones. It is basically a little diary that you write in your own child's famous sayings with the date. This is sure to become a family heirloom and is sure to be pulled out by Mom years down the road to recall the memories that could easily be forgotten!

10. Donate to a Charity in Your Mom's Name
If your Mom is the type who has everything and you are looking for something really special this Mother's Day, consider a charitable gift that gives back and says thank you from your heart—donating to a cause that’s special to your mother’s (or grandmothers, or wife’s, or…you get the point) heart! At JustGive.org you can select a charity and do just that. A great idea this year would be to make a donation towards the disaster relief for the devastating Southern tornadoes.
