Waste in our Home

Did you know:

* Americans dump the equivalent of more than 21 million shopping bags full of food into landfills every year!

* 90% of the cancer-causing chemicals are air pollution - that we cause!

* Americans' total yearly waste would fill a convoy of garbage trucks long enough to wrap around the earth six times or to reach half-way to the moon.

* Each time you take a shower, you use about nine gallons of water.

* Replacing just one incandescent lightbulb with an Energy Star compact flourescent lightbulb, the total energy saved could light more than 2.5 million homes for another year.

Why does this matter?

Have you ever thought about where your power comes from?

Traditionally, we have harvested fossil fuels and burn them to generate power.  Have you ever considered that every time you turn on a light that you are polluting the sky - the air that we breathe?

Alternative power sources are vastly becoming popular due to individuals that take the small steps to change conventional methods.

For instance, we choose Green Mountain Energy.  We were able to get locked in at 11.4 p/kw.  What I love is that, although my energy is not guaranteed to come from wind power, the money we do pay for electricity every month goes towards the wind power sources.  Therefore, more will be built and less fossil fuels are burned.

It actually angers me to see people that are only cost conscious, especially when it may only be one penny difference.  Really?

We have one Earth.  There is no other sustainable place for us.  If we destroy this .... well .... we can all only guess what tragic consequences there may be.

Take a stand. Make a choice and make a difference.  For us - For our children - For our future.

I entirely agree with you. I just wish we had alternative sources of energy around where I live. :( So I just try to lessen my energy use as much as I can...
