DPS Urges Texas to Cancel 4th of July Fireworks

The Texas Department of Public Safety is urging cities and counties and families to cancel all fireworks shows this Fourth of July weekend.

DPS issued a message saying it's too dry and firefighting resources are stretched too thin to handle the potential fires that could be caused by the fireworks.

Several cities across Texas have canceled their fireworks shows and others have turned to laser shows instead. Here in Laredo at least two fireworks shows are set for the upcoming weekend.

I know that the city of Saginaw has banned fireworks for the weekend. I drove thru today and there was a sign by the railroad tracks saying that there would be a $200 - $2000 fine. If there is a chance of starting a fire, I would rather not do it anyway.
